Sasha Grey has turned her career from adult video actress to mainstream model, actress and singer. She began her career in the porn industry at the tender legal age of 18. Her stage name Sasha Grey was taken from Sascha Konietzko of the band KMFDM and “Grey” represents Oscar Wilde’s novel The Picture of Dorian Gray.
Her first scene in the industry was an orgy in the movie The Fashionistas 2 and soon after that she was specially featured in Los Angeles and the next big up and coming porn star, potentially the next Jenna Jameson. After winning numerous awards for her performances on screen, Grey made an appearance on The Tyra Banks Show to discuss teenagers in the sex industry. Her appearance on the show was deemed controversial after the episode aired and much of what she had said defending the porn industry had been edited out, and her words had been twisted for dramatic value to the show. Although she officially retired from porn this year, Grey’s pornographic career has been described by The New York Times as “distinguished both by the extremity of what she is willing to do and an unusual degree of intellectual seriousness about doing it.”
Some of Grey’s major modeling success includes appearing in the artwork for The Smashing Pumpkins album Zeitgeist, appearing in their music video for “Superchrist”, and appearing in The Roots music video “Birthday Girl”. She has also modeled for Max Azria, American Apparel, PETA and Playboy.
Her mainstream acting career rose when she appeared in Academy Award winning director Steven Soderbergh’s film The Girlfriend Experience. Now she is most popularly known for playing a fictionalized version of herself as Vincent Chase’s girlfriend on HBO’s hit series Entourage.
And finally her music career began in 2008 when Grey began an industrial music collaboration, called aTelecine. She also contributed vocals to the Current 93 album Aleph at Hallucinatory Mountain.
